Radiolarian sculpture - Didymocyrtis
These limited edition sculptures are inspired by Radiolaria, microscopic unicellular sea creatures that create skeletons from silica. Their skeletons are among the most beautiful and complex natural microstructures, resembling elaborate filigree or latticework. Artists like us have long been fascinated by Radiolaria dating back to Haeckel's drawings in the late 19th century. We studied his drawings alongside scanning electron microscope images to create a series Radiolaria-inspired sculptures exploring their diversity of form.

Created by Nervous System as part of our Radiozoa collection, the sculptures explore how simple computational rules give rise to natural beauty. The forms are generated from math and code, building on our research into anisotropic centroidal Voronoi diagrams, then 3D printed in clear resin at our studio in the Catskills and hand finished.

Limited editions include a signed and numbered card of authenticity, and the largest sculpture comes with a minimalist display stand for tabletop presentation. Each edition is limited to 50 prints.
