A delicate yet complex pendant in brass that takes its name from Farrea occa, a species of sponge that builds intricate reefs of glass off the coast of British Columbia. Hangs from a 16" gold-filled chain.
Porifera is a 3D-printed ceramic and brass jewelry collection inspired by the forms of deep-sea dwelling glass sponges. These ancient sponges form reefs of glass with complex, porous architectures that are home to many species. The jewelry designs are computationally generated by custom software which creates minimal surface networks along cellular scaffolds that adapt to different volumes and densities.
Our brass jewelry is 3D-printed in wax and then cast in brass. A protective finish is applied to help prevent tarnishing, but over time this piece may develop a patina.
