Oscula Ceramic Necklace
This 3D-printed ceramic necklace hangs from an 18” sterling silver chain. Oscula are the large openings of glass sponges. The complex, porous bodies of glass sponges filter water as it flows through and form homes for many creatures. Critters not included.

Porifera is a 3D-printed ceramic and brass jewelry collection inspired by the forms of deep-sea dwelling glass sponges. These ancient sponges form reefs of glass with complex, porous architectures that are home to many species. The jewelry designs are computationally generated by custom software which creates minimal surface networks along cellular scaffolds that adapt to different volumes and densities.

The 3D-printed ceramic jewelry is the result of more than two years of material experiments and research with Formlabs. By combining new technologies and traditional crafts, ceramic 3D-printing lets us create intricate forms which cannot be manufactured by other methods. The pieces are finished by hand: sanded, glazed, and fired twice in a kiln up to 2340F, creating vitreous ceramic jewelry with a sumptuous glazed finish.

Our 3D-printed ceramic is made at Nervous System in Somerville, MA. Slight variations are possible due to the hand finishing process. Ceramic jewelry is delicate, please handle with care.
